A doctor in Spanish by phone: how it works

Telemedicine lets you talk to a licensed doctor without going to a clinic. Here is what it can treat, when not to use it, and what a call is like.

What it is

You talk to a licensed doctor, physician assistant or nurse practitioner by phone call, video, text message or email. They check your symptoms and give you a treatment plan. No waiting room, and you don’t lose a work day.

What a doctor by phone can help with

  • Flu, fever or sore throat
  • Sinus problems or allergies
  • Ear infection
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Nausea or stomach virus
  • Pink eye
  • Rashes or acne

…and other common illnesses.

When NOT to use it

Call 911 or go to the emergency room if you have:

  • Severe chest pain
  • Trouble breathing
  • Bleeding that will not stop
  • Fainting, seizure or confusion
  • Serious accident or injury
  • Very hot skin or slurred speech after working in the heat (heat stroke)
  • Trouble breathing after contact with a pesticide or chemical

What a call is like

  1. Have your member card ready

They may ask for your card details.

  2. Call or start the video call

Say you prefer Spanish. With Virtual Urgent Care, the staff is bilingual.

  3. Tell them your symptoms

Since when you feel sick, how strong it is, and what medicines you take.

  4. Follow the plan

If you need a clinic or a lab, Virtual Urgent Care helps you find one.

Mental health by phone

With Virtual Urgent Care you can also talk to a mental health expert. The first visit and coaching are included. A psychologist or a psychiatrist costs extra.

Crisis line: 988
