Work description

Dundee Resort Development LLC dba Arapahoe Basin Ski Area respectfully submits this Statement of Temporary Need in support of its H-2B Application for Temporary Employment Certification. Dundee Resort Development LLC dba Arapahoe Basin Ski Area requests certification for 3 temporary Cook IIIs for the period of December 1, 2026 through May 31, 2027. A-Basin does not need any temporary workers from approximately June through November each year, representing at least five months of the calendar year during which its operations do not require a supplemental temporary workforce. Arapahoe Basin Ski Area ("A-Basin") is a world-class ski resort located in Summit County, Colorado, at an elevation of up to 13,050 feet above sea level. A-Basin is one of the premier ski destinations in North America, offering over 148 trails across 1,428 acres of skiable terrain. The resort draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually during the winter ski season, generating a significant and predictable seasonal demand for food and beverage, facilities, and guest services staff. A-Basin's business is fundamentally seasonal in nature. The resort experiences its annual seasonal demand from December through May, when skiers and snowboarders visit from across the country and around the world. During this period, the resort must significantly supplement its permanent year-round workforce to meet the demands of its guests. Conversely, A-Basin has minimal operations from June through November, with reduced or no guests, resulting in at least five to six months each year during which the employer does not need any temporary workers. This recurring, predictable seasonal pattern has characterized A-Basin's operations for many years. Summit County, Colorado is a mountain community with a limited permanent population and a correspondingly limited local labor force. During the peak ski season, every hospitality and resort employer in the region competes for the same small pool of available local workers. A-Basin has actively recruited U.S. workers for these positions through domestic job postings, job fairs, and referrals, but has been unable to attract sufficient qualified U.S. workers willing to commit to the full season of temporary employment. Most U.S. applicants are either unqualified, unwilling to work for the duration of the employment period, or seeking permanent full-time positions rather than seasonal temporary work. For all of the foregoing reasons, Dundee Resort Development LLC dba Arapahoe Basin Ski Area respectfully requests that the Department of Labor certify its application for 3 temporary Cook IIIs for the period of December 1, 2026 through May 31, 2027. Please do not hesitate to contact our office should you require any additional information. Please see attached...
