Work description
Olympia Hotel Management, LLC d/b/a North Conway Grand Hotel (the Petitioner) has a peakload need for workers in this temporary position. The Petitioner is a high-end hotel located in the tourism-rich vacation destination of North Conway, New Hampshire. North Conway is a popular winter getaway with alpine and Nordic skiing, snowmobiling, tubing, and sleigh rides minutes away. Each year during winter and early spring, but also during the shorter summer season, North Conway Grand Hotels location serves as a great home base for guests to explore local attractions, dine at area restaurants, visit North Conways beautiful mountain views, and partake in other recreational and leisure activities. To match this increased demand, it is typical for tourism-dependent businesses such as Olympia Hotel Management, LLC d/b/a North Conway Grand Hotel to increase their workforce significantly. Therefore, as evidenced from the above and the other documentation included in this application Olympia Hotel Management, LLC d/b/a North Conway Grand Hotel experiences a distinct dual-seasonal need for temporary workers, with the busy winter season occurring from December through April, and the summer season occurring from June through October. As a dual-season business, Olympia Hotel Management, LLC d/b/a North Conway Grand Hotel requires temporary Cooks during the peak of both the summer and winter seasons. Due to the drop in business that occurs in the shouldering months between the winter and the summer seasons, during May and November, the duties of the Cook position can be fulfilled by the Petitioners year-round staff and small number of J-1 visa workers, and therefore, the Petitioner has no need to employ additional, temporary workers during the off-season months. Therefore, the services offered by the Petitioner are peakload in nature. The Petitioner experiences the dual seasonal need described above, with its peak seasons occurring from December through April, and again from June through October for summer season. Based on the above seasons, the Petitioner will be submitting multiple H-2B applications with two (2) distinct periods of need. This application is being filed with a period of need of December 1st through April 30th. Although the Petitioner employs permanent workers to staff this position on a year-round basis, due to the peak in demand outlined above, the Petitioner must supplement its permanent staff with temporary workers during its busiest months. At the end of the Petitioners period of need, business levels fall, and the Petitioner will no longer have the need or the ability to continue to employ these additional temporary workers. Located in the rural mountain town of North Conway, the hiring potential of the Petitioner is very limited. The bulk of the areas residents tend to be seasonal tourists, and there are very few permanent occupants who have inclinations of entering the local workforce. Additionally, the Petitioner is in constant competition with every other local business for the same, limited U.S. workforce. Finally, the elite nature of the Petitioner means that it must require related experience for the Cook position, and very few local workers (if any) meet the necessary qualifications. Due to these factors, the Petitioner consistently struggles to find local workers who are willing and able to fill this temporary position.
